MEETINGS AND EVENTS FOR THE 2018 - 2019 SEASON

 

 

Meetings are normally held on the third Wednesday of the respective months at the Heritage Centre, Roe Street, Macclesfield, starting at 19:30.

 

For events marked with * a donation of £3 is requested from non-members.

 

17 October 2018 – AGM with a report on the preceding year 

The AGM will be followed by a Social Evening during which we will find time to reflect on where the town is at the moment and discuss what could be done to achieve positive change in our town centre.  

A charge of £4 will be made to cover the cost of refreshments.

 

21 November 2018 - Air Quality Action Plan and Strategy - what are the implications for Macclesfield? *

A presentation by the Air Quality team of Cheshire East Council.  See the Cheshire East Air Quality Action Plan here. There are 4 Air Quality Management Areas (AQMAs) in Macclesfield. They are, with links to 4 AQMA maps, A523 Cross Street/London Road, Park Lane, Broken Cross and Hibel Road.

 

16 January 2019 – Bringing major developments forward - the South Macclesfield Development Area (SMDA) project * 

A presentation by Engine of the North, a Cheshire East owned property development company, on the planning of 950 new homes, retail and other developments to the south of the town. See the latest Planning Application for the SMDA, 17/1874M, here. Cheshire East appear to censor all comments on planning applications made by members of the public, including this Society. See the SDMA chapter on pages 227 to 230 in the local plan here (Warning: Patience or a fast internet connection required).

 

16 February 2019 - Cheshire East holds a drop-in session with information about the Macclesfield town centre strategic regeneration framework at Unit 8 of the Grosvenor Centre, between 10am and 3pm. Deadline for representations 5pm on 13 March 2019.

 

20 February 2019 – Latest on new town centre developments *

NOTE: New subject: Latest on the town centre developments. On 13 February Cheshire East Council will launch a public consultation on a future strategic vision for the regeneration of Macclesfield. A drop-in session with information will take place on 16 February in the Grosvenor Centre. Our planned meeting on renewable energy has been postponed to next season.

 

31 March 2019  Deadline for nominations for this year's Civic Society Awards Scheme for developments completed during 2018. See our awards page.

 

17 April 2019 – Civic Society Awards for developments completed in 2018 * 

The entries in the scheme to find the best developments of 2018 will be displayed together with the assessment of the judging panel, which comprises members of the Executive Committee and representatives of Macclesfield Town Council. 

The Mayor of Macclesfield, Cllr Adam Schofield, will present the awards, and a social evening will follow.

 

2019 Walks and Visits

 

15 May 2019 – Suburban development at Tytherington, 1950s to the present, including sites under development

Meet at the Tytherington Family Worship, off Dorchester Way, at 19:30

A donation of £3 from non-members welcomed.

 

15 June 2019 (Saturday) – Return visit to Alderley Park to view changes in the preceding two years - the bio technology hub and residential developments and conversions

Meet at Alderley House using the main entrance from the A34 at 14:00. Places limited to 30 - reserve by contacting the Chairman on 01625 424101 or email keith76079smith@yahoo.com

A donation of £5 from non-members would be welcomed.

 

17 July 2019 – The annual Town Centre Walk – key sites and fringe areas of interest to the centre. Development opportunities and problems to be solved. Hopefully we will see some signs of action.

Executive Committee Meetings 

The Executive Committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 19:30 in Sainsbury's Cafe. Members are welcome to attend.
